Laurence Carpanini leads the strategic development of Smart Energy Solutions for IBM across Europe. He has over 25 years’ experience in the sector, providing leadership, subject matter expertise and an infectious enthusiasm for solutions driving the transformation of the energy industry. In this role Laurence acts as an ambassador for IBM in the utilities Industry, representing IBM's Energy propositions and points of view and providing a point of focus for all activities relating to the transformation of business operations, the development of future energy systems and the impact of regulatory and policy change. In recent years Laurence has engaged with Government and Regulatory Authorities in developing the Smart Metering and Smart Grid Market model in Great Britain; has advised energy companies in developing their smart metering and smart grid programmes; and has represented IBM on the boards of various government and industry organisations, such as the E&U management group at TechUK, the Advisory Board of Durham University Energy Institute and the Smart Living Technical Group set up by Welsh Government.
